Michael Jackson 1984Michael Jackson is dead states one text. He died. He just died. My daughter receives these messages on her cell phone. How ironic, she celebrates her birthday on the day that The King of Pop, the king of celebrities passes away. Some people loved him, some hated him, and some fell in between the two extremes.

Regardless, Michael Jackson indeed knew how to celebritize himself. Michael Jackson Private Jet Wikipedia.org states that he was, “One of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, his other achievements include multiple Guiness World Records — including one for “Most Successful Entertainer of All Time”—13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career — more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era and the sale of 750 million records worldwide. Jackson’s highly publicized personal life, coupled with his successful career, made him a part of popular culture for almost four decades.” School children are still jamming to the music that their baby boomer parents have listened to for years.

As I watch my daughter’s face turned from the happiness of celebrating the day she was born to sadness upon hearing the death of such a huge celebrity, I think about my little celebrity. Straight A’s her entire school year, on an athletic team, getting her first boating certification, almost fluent in the top two business languages in world, selected to be the top of her gifted class, an already published travel writer, her accomplishments continue on and on. Yet when people ask her to tell about herself, she replies, “I’m in sixth grade.” Or when someone speaks to her in Spanish, she replies in English.

Timid? Shy? No, not this one! She just chooses not to let the world know at that particular time. And that’s okay. Balance and caution is good. Yet there are times when she needs to shine and show her stuff such as when she is trying to win a contest or when it is more advantageous to speak the native language of the country she is in on a writing assignment with me.

  • Celebrity. There is one in us. We may not be a celebrity in the limelight and on the stage such as the late Michael Jackson yet each person has his or her talents and strengths. The world may never know the real you if you do not let it shine. Now I’m not necessarily talking about winning a popularity contest or being the most extroverted. I’m talking about drawing out YOUR inner celebrity at the level in which you want and need.
  • Celebrity. There is one in you. Like the famous celebrities sometimes forget who they are and where they came from, sometimes we forget there is a celebrity within us. So why wait until you’ve made X amount of dollars, until you retire, or until whatever and whenever to treat yourself to what you want and deserve.
